The 18th ceremony of the Independent Spirit Awards took place on 22 March 2003.
Summary
Far from Heaven (Far from Heaven ), Todd Haynes ' 50s melodrama, was the big winner with five awards. The triumph of the film not only ended Haynes for a long wait on the price: For the director and cinematographer Edward Lachman it had been the fourth one nomination for Julianne Moore the third. Dennis Quaid won for this movie already his second award. For other films remained only addition to awards and nominations: S / M fantasy Secretary won the prize for best screenplay debut, the black Jennifer Aniston comedy The Good Girl the award for best screenplay, Denzel Washington's directorial debut Antwone Fisher the price of the best Actor. Michael Moore was at the Oscars as best documentary film, Alfonso Cuarón won the award for best foreign film makers.
