1917–18 NHL season
The NHL season 1917/18 was the first season of the National Hockey League. The season was played in a preliminary round with 14 games and a second half with eight games. The National Hockey League ( NHL) was founded in Montreal on November 26, 1917, after a meeting of the leaders of the National Hockey Association ( NHA) in the Windsor Hotel.
The owners of the Canadiens de Montréal, Montreal Wanderers, Ottawa Senators and Quebec Bulldogs decided to start a new league to Edward J. Livingstone, owner of the Toronto Blueshirts of the NHA, to exclude from the game. The Toronto Arenas joined shortly thereafter the League, while the Quebec Bulldogs initially refrained from participation in active play operation and their players distributed to the other teams. Thus began four teams on 19 December 1917 in the season, but presented after six games, the Montreal Wanderers, a game operation, as their home ground was like a fire victim.
Both rounds were scored separately, the two leaders played in two games the representative of the NHL for the final series for the Stanley Cup. Toronto represented the league well and was able to defeat with a 3-2 win the representatives of the Pacific Coast Hockey Association, the Vancouver Millionaires.
