1921–22 WCHL season

The season 1921/22, was the first regular season of the Western Canada Hockey League ( WCHL ). Masters were the Regina Capitals.

Mode

In the regular season, the four teams each completed 24 games. The top two teams met in the playoffs in successive round-trip game, the team with the better goal of both games was awarded the title. For a win, each team was given two points, a draw one point and at a defeat.

Course of the season

In the WCHL newly formed a tight duel developed in its premiere season from the beginning to the first place in the regular season between the teams from Edmonton, Regina and Calgary, which was only two points away from each other at the end of the season all. Only the Saskatoon Crescents could not hold out with the other teams and finished the season in Moose Jaw, where they continued to play as Crescents from 3 February 1922. In the playoff series for the championship the Edmonton Eskimos defeated by the Regina Capitals nearly 2:3 gates ( 1:1 / 1:2 ) and moved into the Stanley Cup Challenge.

Stanley Cup Challenge

The WCHL champion Regina Capitals had to play against the champions of the Pacific Coast Hockey Association first in a qualification. There, the Regina Capitals defeated by the Vancouver Millionaires, but then the St. Patricks of the National Hockey League subject themselves to Toronto in a best - of-five series with 2:3 victories.
