1922 Memorial Cup

The 1922 Memorial Cup was the fourth edition of the tournament the same name. Participating teams were the champions of their respective leagues, the Regina Patricias ( Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League) and the Fort William War Veterans (Ontario Hockey Association ). The tournament saw before two games in which the winner was determined solely on the basis of goals scored.

The Fort William War Veterans won in their first and only finals after two games with 8:7 gates the Memorial Cup. The tournament was first held not in Toronto, but in Shea's Amphitheatre in Winnipeg. For Patricia, it was the second final defeat in 1919.

Results

In the first game of the series, the Fort William War Veterans were after the first third with a 3-1 goal lead. In the second period Regina player Syl Acaster scored three goals, called a hat trick. In the last third Clark Whyte scored two more goals for the War Veterans and hence the winning goal.

In the second game of this series proved again Clark Whyte as a crucial player for the Veterans; the player scored all three goals for his team. For the Regina Patricias Syl Acaster scored two goals, also met Harvey Naismith once.

Memorial Cup winner

The crew of the Fort William War Veterans consisted of the players Walter Adams, Johnny Bates, Jerry Bourke, Ted D' Arcy, John Enwright, Alex Philips, Fred Thorne and Clark Whyte. Manager and coach of the team was Stan Bliss.
