1923–24 NHL season
The NHL season 1923/24, was the seventh season of the National Hockey League. Four teams each played 24 games. The top two of the regular season played in two games the NHL finals for a place in the Stanley Cup finals. Here the Montreal Canadiens prevailed against the league leaders the regular season, the Ottawa Senators. There, the Canadiens put first against the winner of the PCHA, the Vancouver Maroons 2-0 victories through before they also won in two games against the winner of the WCHL, the Calgary Tigers and thus the Stanley Cup. This season, the first award for a player has been introduced. The Hart Memorial Trophy went in the first year at Ottawa's Frank Nighbor. Also another player the Senators wrote itself into the history books. With only two assists Cy Denneny was due to his 22 goals at the best scorer. This helped him also topscorer of the previous and the following season. Toronto's Babe Dye shocked his team with his decision to become professional baseball. He returned in December back on the ice this season and missed five games. Five points lacked for scoring titles.
