1926 Memorial Cup

The 1926 Memorial Cup was the eighth edition of the tournament the same name. Participating teams were the champions of their respective leagues, the Canadiens Calgary (Calgary City Junior Hockey League ) and the team of Queen 's University, the Queen's Golden Gaels, from the Ontario Hockey Association. The tournament winner was not the first time determined on the basis of goals scored; the mode provided for a best-of -three series. The tournament was held in Winnipeg.

The Calgary Canadians won after their second finals after 1924 their first and only Memorial Cup. Only at the Memorial Cup in 1999 should be in the final of this competition with the Calgary Hitmen again a team from Calgary. The Queen's University was also the last university attended a Memorial Cup finals.

Results

In the first third of the first game of the series Queen's went after goals by Carl Voss and Reid with a 2-1 lead, Calgary's goal was scored by George McTeer. In the second period scoring twice the player McPherson for the university team, Paul Thompson scored in the final period, only the first goal.

The second game won Calgary thanks to a late goal from defender Gordon Savage. The Canadians went in the first third with goals from Thompson and Donnie McFadyen lead. In the final third of the players Hartley scored twice for temporary equalizer before Savage decided the game for the Calgary Canadians.

The Canadians were goals from Thompson, Ronnie Martin and Thompson again before the last third of a 3-0 front. For the Queen's University met in the final section nor the players Voss and Hartley.

The crew of the Calgary Canadians consisted of the players Charles " Chuck" Dunn, Irving Frew, Ronnie Martin, Joe McGoldrich, Donnie McFadyen, George McTeer, Tony Savage, Bert Taylor, Paul Thompson and Sam Timmins. Manager and coach of the team was Eddie Poulin.
