1926 South American Championships in Athletics
The Fourth Athletics South America Championships were held from 15th to 20th of April in Montevideo instead. Thus, the event returned for the first time back in a city that had already been once before venue. The team competition was won by the team of Argentina with 86 points against the team of Chile with 44 points and the Uruguayans with 8 points, the team of Peru remained without a medal. The most successful athletes were the Chilean long-distance runner Manuel Plaza and the Argentine Mehrkämpfer Valerio Vallanía who each won four titles. Manuel Plaza had already won four titles in 1924 and was now with eight titles the most successful athlete until then.
