1928 Memorial Cup

The 1928 Memorial Cup was the tenth edition of the tournament the same name. Participating teams were the champions of their respective leagues, the Ottawa Gunners ( Ottawa City Junior Hockey League) and the Regina Monarchs ( South Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League). The mode provided for a best-of -three series.

The Regina Monarchs won three games after their first Memorial Cup. The tournament was held in Toronto.

Results

In the first game of the series Harold " Mush " March scored all four goals for Regina Monarchs. For the Ottawa Gunners scored in the second period, the player Armstrong, as well as in the final period twice Syd Howe. The game was played very physical, a total of 22 time penalties were issued.

The second game to decide the Gunners goals from Quinn and Tommy McInenly 2-1 for itself. The only goal for the Monarchs scored again Mush March in the second third. The game was played in the Toronto Varsity Arena, which has a smaller ice surface than the Arena Gardens and was sold out with 4,500 spectators.

The third and final game to decide the Monarchs with a 7-1 clear goals for themselves. Harold March scored the only goal of the first game section. Later he managed a goal; total added March thus seven of the twelve gates of the Regina Monarchs. The other goals of the Monarchs achieved Harold Shaw, Ken " Swede " Williamson, Charles " Chuck" Farrow and Len Dowie, who, like Mush March scored twice. The consolation goal for the Ottawa Gunners scored the defender Armstrong in the middle third.

The crew of the Regina Monarchs consisted of the players John Achtzner, Carl Bergl, Len Dowie, Charles " Chuck" Farrow, Jim Langford Harold " Mush " March, G. Parron, Harold Shaw and Ken " Swede " Williamson. Coach and manager of the team was Howie Milne.
