1932 World Table Tennis Championships

The 6th World Table Tennis Championship took place from 25 to 30 January 1932 in Prague (Czechoslovakia) in the hall of the National Home in Smichov instead.

Survey

The tournament suffered from the cramped premises: you could set up only five tables and also the spectator area was much too small. Romania and Sweden were missing because of economic difficulties for France first participated in the World Cup.

The Hungarians again dominated the scene. Except for the men's teams, they won all the titles.

In the team competition resulted after the regular Free-for -All group games, a tie, which is why Hungary, Czechoslovakia and Austria had to play the songs in a round decision. Sensational was the 0-5 defeat of Hungary's men's team in the second round against Czechoslovakia. And in the final won Czechoslovakia against Hungary. The first time was the world champion not Hungary - host Czechoslovakia won the title. Germany achieved the 5th place. A better result was gained only 30 years later.

In men's singles, Victor Barna took the title back. In a high-class and competitive final, he defeated the defending champion, although he was already 13:17 lagged in the fifth set.

A changing of the guard, there were also in women's singles: Maria Mednyanszky was the first time - after five consecutive titles - not world champion. She was defeated in the final by Anna Sipos (Hungary ), which has been repeatedly Second or third parties at the previous World Championships. One reason could be that they played until 1932 with penholder racket attitude. After the switch to the "normal " Shake hand posture she was stronger.
