1934–35 French Division 2

The season 1934/35 was the second edition of the professional French football Division 2, which operated officially under the name Championnat de Division 2. Second-division champion was the CS Metz.

Were eligible to participate, the eleven teams that were after the previous season went up neither in the first division still had abandoned their professional status. The two clubs from Bordeaux, CD and SC Español de la Bastidienne had fused together, so that in this summer of 1934, in fact only ten " Zweitdivisionäre the first hour " went to the start. There were also a Erstligaabsteiger and three freshmen who had received a license for the first time. The second division was discharged otherwise than in their debut season, this time in a single season.

Thus, in this season following 14 teams were represented:

  • Six clubs from the far north (Racing Roubaix, Tourcoing U.S., newbie Racing Lens, U.S. Valenciennes Anzin, Racing Calais, Amiens AC )
  • One from the capital ( relegated CA Paris )
  • One from the north-east ( the renamed this season Metz CS )
  • Three from the Pacific Northwest (Le Havre AC, FC Rouen, Caen newbie )
  • Two clubs from Lyonnais (AS Saint- Étienne, freshman AS Villeurbanne )
  • One from the southwest ( the resulting from a merger FC Hispano- Bastidienne Bordeaux).

From the Mediterranean on the other hand played 1934/35, no team in Division 2 because the next CA Paris second relegated OGC Nice was returned directly to the amateur stock.

A direct ascent and descent depending on the sporting result, there was obtained only between the first and second professional division. On the other hand could be a Zweitdivisionär only descend when he made his license or has been taken from him, and also could previous amateur teams from the Division d' Honneur only for the following season ascend to Division 2 when they were given permission by the Association, professional to accept status.

Course of the season, results and tables

Each team wore against each group opponent a back and a leg off, even before a home crowd and once away. It was the two- point rule; case of a tie, the goal difference was the decisive factor for the placement. There was also there a tie - as in this season between Tourcoing and Saint- Étienne -, the overall result of both direct encounters decided between these counterparties. In France, the number of plus points is given when specifying the point ratio exclusively; Again, this is done in Germany in the days of the 2- point rule usual notation. In the table ( A) marks the relegated from Division 1, a (N), the newcomers in professional football.

The Games took place between August 26, 1934 and 2 June 1935. A winter break did not exist; were discharged point games also on Christmas and New Year's Day.

The battle for the climb was open long. Rouen, and especially freshman Lens stood still until the end of April repeatedly at the first place - this turn of the year even Calais - before Metz with its extremely good goal difference, the tip took over permanently. Also Valenciennes and Roubaix were in the final stages at the touch of the climb ranks. Second place went to finally Valenciennes, which remained undefeated against the groups and there had only conceded two draws. Mirroring this took taillight Bordeaux away only a draw and conceded 98 goals, was from the beginning in 14th place and was, as a little later Villeurbanne, knocked off early. The top scorer secured, as was 1933/34, in turn, Jean Nicolas of the " Red Devils" from Rouen; However, he had made it this season only 30 hits and thus 24 fewer than in the previous year.

Tourcoing and Bordeaux gave after the season back their professional license. U.S. Boulogne, FCO Charleville, Olympique Dunkerque, FC Nancy, OGC Nice, Stade Reims: For the following season to the newly relegated from Division 1, SO Montpellier and Nîmes SC, and seven clubs, where a license was allocated or re- arrived AS Troyes - Savinienne.

Most successful goal scorers

In the 182 matches 837 goals were scored; which corresponds to an average of 4.6 goals per game.
