1939 South American Championships in Athletics
The XI. Athletics South America Championships were held until May 28, 1939 in Lima on 25. For the first time were also nine competitions for women in the program, the first two winners came from Chile. A total of seven countries participated, Ecuador was for the first time and also won his first medals. Successful athletes were the Brazilians José de Assis and Sylvio Padilha, each with two single and two relay victories; successful athlete was the Argentine Lelia Trace with two wins and one each second, and third place.
