1942 South American Championship

The Campeonato Sudamericano 1942 was the 17th playout of the South American continental championship in football and was held from January 10 to February 7 for the fourth time in Uruguay instead. Although with Bolivia and Colombia were missing two teams, the number of participants of the first seven teams, 21 games, 81 goals and 674,000 viewers each meant new record for the competition.

The tournament was as usual ( FFA ) played in the league system. Case of a tie for first place, a playoff was provided. All matches were played at the Estadio Centenario in Montevideo.

South American football champions was the eighth time in Uruguay.
