1947 South American Championship

The Campeonato Sudamericano 1947 was the 20th playout the South American continental championship in football and was held from 30 November to 31 December for the first time in Ecuador instead. With the exception of Brazil, all 8 of its current members of CONMEBOL at the start, what a new record for participation represented and led to new records in both matches and goals were.

The tournament was as usual ( FFA ) played in the league system. Case of a tie for first place, a playoff was provided. It was played at the Estadio George Capwell exclusively in Guayaquil, the largest city in Ecuador. It usually two games were sequentially discharged in a doubleheader in one day.

Argentina celebrated after 1945 and 1946 a title hat-trick and was superior and without defeat for the ninth time in total South American champions in football and therefore also the record holder. The team was, inter alia, the future world star Alfredo Di Stéfano.
