To determine the sixth team a relegation of non-qualified masters of the country leagues was carried out before the season starts, which won the Cologne EK. Other participants in this Relegation were the Harvestehuder THC, the SC Forsthausstraße Frankfurt, the SG Mannheim and Stuttgart HC. In the finals, Cologne continued to Mannheim with 5:1 and 7:1 by.

The first-placed team at the end of the single round won the German championship. Since the League for the following season should be increased to eight teams, the mounted Relegation SG Mannheim was not counted against Cologne EK so that no team relegation. The climbers were identified in the fall of 1949, the Krefeld EV and EV Tegernsee.
