1949–50 IHL season
The season 1949/50, was the fifth regular season of the International Hockey League. During the regular season, five teams contested every 40 games. In the play-offs, the Chatham Maroons prevailed and won the first Turner Cup in their history.

Team changes
The following changes were made before the start of the season:
- The Akron Americans stopped the game operation.
- The Detroit Bright's Goodyears stopped the game operation.
- The Detroit Jerry Lynch stopped the game operation.
- The Louisville Blades were transferred to the United States Hockey League.
- The Milwaukee Clarks were transferred to the Eastern Amateur Hockey League.
- The Muncie Flyers stopped the game operation.
- The Toledo Mercurys were transferred to the Eastern Amateur Hockey League.
- The Windsor Spitfires were Hettche to Detroit, Michigan, moved and played from now on under the name Detroit Hettche.
- The Chatham Maroons were added as an expansion team in the league.
- The Sarnia Sailors were added as an expansion team in the league.
