1950–51 French Division 2

The season 1950/51 was the twelfth staging of the professional French football Division 2 second-division champion Olympique Lyon.

Were eligible to participate, the 16 clubs that were after the previous season went not into the first division have their professional status - had given up - voluntarily or forced. There were also two Erstligaabsteiger. Lyon Olympique Universitaire had ceded his place at the newly founded club Olympique Lyon.

Thus, in this season, the following 18 teams played for the championship of Division 2:

  • Two teams from the far north (U.S. Valenciennes Anzin, AC Amiens ),
  • Two from Paris and the Champagne (CA Paris, AS Troyes - Savinienne )
  • Two from the Northeast ( relegated FC Metz, Franc- Comtois Besançon Racing Club )
  • Four from the West (U.S. Le Mans, Nantes, Angers SCO, FC Rouen )
  • Eight from the southeast ( Olympique Lyon AS Béziers, Olympique Alès, relegated SO Montpellier, Marseille 2 GSC, SC Toulon, AS Cannes -Grasse, AS Monaco).

A direct ascent and descent depending on the sporting result achieved it had before the Second World War only given between first and second professional division; then a descent was introduced in the third- highest division for several years. In addition, a Zweitdivisionär could stay if he gave his license or has been taken from him. Existing amateur teams, however, could continue only for the following season ascend to Division 2 when they were given permission by the relevant association FFF to accept professional status. There were first time this season a relegation round between the two lowest-ranked first division, which did not have to descend directly, and the two best, not directly climb legitimate second division.

Course of the season and Table

Each team wore against each group opponent a back and a leg off, even before a home crowd and once away. It was the two- point rule; case of a tie, the goal difference was the decisive factor for the placement. In France, the number of plus points is called when specifying the point ratio exclusively; Again, this is done in Germany in the days of the 2- point rule usual notation.

The big surprise of the season was the " newbie with old license" from Lyon, which, after a relatively sovereign completed season succeeded the prompt rise. The team was relegated Metz, who returned immediately to Division 1, behind him and pointed at the end of a safe distance from the third table from Rouen. The Normans also remained denied as the fourth-placed team from Besancon in the subsequent Barrages the rise.

Already during the first round to Marseille withdrew from the game operation and gave his professional status after just one and a half years back on; his hitherto matches played were not counted. In Table cellar there was a four-way battle with gossamer output - the three weakest teams separated only goal difference - where Cercle Athlétique, the traditional club from Paris, successively occupied one of the two last places for the fourth time.

In the 272 matches 876 goals were scored; which corresponds to an average of 3.2 goals per game. The top scorer won Thadée Cisowski (Metz) with 23 goals. For the following season came from the top division of the Toulouse FC and Stade Français Paris added; also gave the association the FC Grenoble a new license.

(A) = relegated from Division 1; (N *) = novice / successor of a license holder of the preseason

Relegation round

After the season Rouen, and Besançon had the chance to qualify in the Barrages for promotion to the Division 1. These games were played in a simple round each point on neutral ground. In it sat but ultimately by the two higher-class teams from Lens and Sète.
