1953–54 Nationalliga A season

The season 1953/54, was the 16th regular hosting of the National League A, the top Swiss league in hockey. For the fourth time in their history, the EHC Arosa was Swiss champion, during the Lausanne HC descent into NLB.

Mode

Like last year, the league was held in a common main round. Each of the eight teams played in home and away leg against each group opponent, bringing the total number of matches per team was 14. The first table was swiss champion, during the last table had to compete for the league against the best second division side in the relegation. For a win, each team was given two points, a draw one point. At a loss to give any points.

The Lausanne HC, who won just one of their 14 games in the main round and it had a goal difference of -85, met the best second division EHC St. Moritz and subject to that much with 4:9 whereby the Lausanne HC in the NLB descent and the EHC St. Moritz took its place in the NLA.
