1954–55 DFB-Pokal
DFB Cup winner in 1955 was the Karlsruher SC, who had defeated the defending champions VfB Stuttgart in the quarterfinals. The final took place on 21 May 1955 at Eintracht-Stadion in Braunschweig instead.

The Karlsruhe were clear favorites in their first cup final. However, the inexperienced Schalke fought with the KSC front of 25,000 spectators in Braunschweig an open slugfest by the Baden could only decide in the final minutes for themselves. The KSC went through a header from Kunkel lead after referee Treichel had decided on indirect free kick in the Schalke penalty area, goalkeeper because Orzessek had held the ball too long. The Gelsenkirchen responded with furious attacks and came just before the break by Sadlowski for a deserved equalizer. After the break, the lively game continued and it hit again Striker Sadlowski for Schalke and brought the Mavericks the lead. Schalke moved forward back to save the leadership over time, but the Karlsruher could the game in the last ten minutes by a volley of director Sommerlatt and a remarkable hit by Traub from " an impossible " angle near the corner flag still turning once.
