1954 European Athletics Championships
The 5th European Athletics Championships were held from 25 to 29 August 1954 in Bern. The competitions were held in the Neufeld Stadium.
Overall, there were three world records: Vladimir Kuz from the Soviet Union reached in the 5000 -meter run, a new record of 13:56,6 minutes. Mikhail Kriwonosow, also of the Soviet Union, scored the hammer throw a width of 63.34 m. The Hungarian Sándor Rozsnyói put down the 3000 -meter Hindersnislauf back in 8:49,6 min. There was also a European record by the German Heinz Fütterer, in 20.9 s covered the 200 meters.
