- January 29: World Premiere of Diabolique (directed by Henri -Georges Clouzot ). This regarded as classic film continued to influence in the genre of psychological thriller.
- April 13: Premiere of the film Rififi (dir. Jules Dassin ), regarded as influential for the genre of heist films.
- December 21: Premiere of Sissi ( Director: Ernst Marischka ). The first part of the Sissi trilogy with Romy Schneider in the title role belongs with 20-25 million viewers - ticket sales were at that time not yet fully recognized - the most successful German film productions.
