1956–57 Swedish Division I season

The season 1956/57, was the 13th season of Division 1 as the highest Swedish hockey league. Champion for the first time in club history at all of Gavle GIK. Hammarby IF, IF Brynäs, UOIF Matteuspojkarna and BK Star descended to the second division.

Mode

In the main round of the league was divided into two groups ( North and South). Each of the eight teams in each group completed a total of 14 games. The top two teams in each group qualified for the final round, in which the Master was played. The two last placed each group went directly into the second division. For a win, each team was given two points, a draw there was a point and a defeat.
