Game History

After unit Pankow (1952 /53) was involved in the sixth final of the fdgb Cup with the SC Chemie Halle- Leuna a second division for the second time. However, the Halle had finished the last season in 1956 as a newly promoted to the Oberliga. The enemy Zask Vorwärts Berlin had completed the league season in sixth. Because the East Berlin six current national team aufboten, they went as the clear favorite in the game. On the other hand, the Halle had to bear the handicap that they first had to deny an extension and then a replay against the Oberliga SC Turbine Erfurt in the semifinals only seven or four days ago.

It took a quarter of an hour, until the SC Chemistry had his game rhythm. Until then, the Berlin making the decisions, two corner kicks, but could not be used -won. Then took Halles inside left Walter Schmidt, the initiative and rolled his crew on the offensive. Successively crossed Lehmann, Lehrmann and Imhof dangerous before the Berliner Tor on, with constant changes of position for confusion caring. This was successful, because in the 18th minute was the scorer for chemistry. Halles Right Wing Jaukus Eilitz had lured out of cover, played on him and could fit on his Centre Forward Lehmann. Berlin's goalkeeper Spickenagel missed an edge to Büchner, whose shot bounced off the first post, but then trickled into the empty net.

With increasing playing time is revealed the weaknesses of the Berlin game system. Although the actors were technically shod and showed mach interesting turn, but on the way to the opponent's goal it was too hesitant. In addition, the striker confusing array in individual actions, overlooked several times in a better position next man. Striker Gerhard Reichelt played totally out of shape and was the weak point in the forward - team. Kamen strikers times to scoring chances, they failed because of the excellent holding Goalkeeper Melchior.

The second half began with a shot against the post of Hallensers Lehrmann, a little later, the Berlin Meyer, Unger and Assmy had good chances to score, but they were all forgiven. After that forward coach Gyarmati decided in the 59th minute to replace the still disappointing Reichelt against Siegfried quail. This measure revived the play of the Berliner visible, but it took until 73 minutes before a countable success jumped out. The starting point was the substitute quail whose edge Kaulmann could exploit to 1:1 compensation. The SC chemistry but could not be characterized impress. His players mobilized, again driven by Walter Schmidt, the last reserves of strength, on the other hand showed the forward player surprisingly conditional weaknesses. Thus a consistent way in the 84th minute was the decisive winning goal for the underdog SC Chemie Halle- Leuna. A sharp shot of Lehmann could Marotzke ward in dire need for a corner. Spickenagel missed the corner kick and Imhof was a remarkable head-butt on the spot.

Comment chemistry coach Horst Sockoll: "I would not believe myself that the boys would still bring such reserves, but the spirit and the will have won. "
