Badminton
The highlight of the Badminton 1956 were the All England, the Irish Open, the Scottish Open, the Denmark Open, the German Open, the Dutch Open and the French Open. In Portugal and Taiwan first national championships were held.

- 24 June: In the final of the German soccer championship Borussia Dortmund defeated in the Berlin Olympic Stadium before 75,000 spectators Karlsruher SC to gates of Niepieklo, Kelbassa, Preißler and Peters 4-2 and became the first German champion.
