1958–59 in English football

The Football League First Division 1958/59 was the 60th season of the Football League First Division English as the highest football league. The Wolverhampton Wanderers won by six points behind Manchester United are the third English championship in their history and defended the title from the previous year. Both newly promoted West Ham United and Blackburn Rovers were able to get the class; instead had to play the course in the Second Division Aston Villa and Portsmouth. These two teams should be in the following season replaced by the two second-division promoted Sheffield Wednesday FC and Fulham.

A total of 515 players were used, with West Bromwich Albion, West Ham United and Burnley FC and Newcastle United at the least 29 aufboten 20 most players in league games. 126 newcomers were offset by 132 footballers who most recently came into play in the season 1958/59.
