1959–60 FIBA European Champions Cup

The season 1959/60 was the third season of the discharged by FIBA ​​Europe European Champions' Cup, which operates under the name Euro League today.

The title was won as in the two previous years, ASK Riga from the Soviet Union.

Mode

At the final round took the 13 masters of the national league and the defending champion and another select team from the Soviet Union, in part. First, a qualifier was played. The winner of the match pairings were determined in return game. The decisive factor was the whole goal average of both games. The winner of the match pairings in the second round, the quarter finals, the semi-finals, and the finals were also determined in return game.

1st Round ( qualification)

  • Fenerbahçe Istanbul from Turkey withdrew without a fight in the final round, because the intended opponents Maccabi Tel Aviv did not compete due to internal problems.
  • Union Babenberg Vienna Austria also came on without a fight, as the Italian champions in the preseason Simmenthal Milano was closed for the European Cup in 1959/60.
