1960 1000 km Buenos Aires

The sixth 1000km race of Buenos Aires took place on January 31, 1960 held at the Autódromo Municipal Avenida Paz and was the first championship round of the World Sportscar Championship this year.

The race

For the first championship round of the World Sportscar Championship in 1960, the factory teams of Ferrari and Porsche met in Buenos Aires. The race ended after more than six hours of racing with a double victory of the 3 -liter Ferrari in front of the fastest Porsche 718 RSK, which driven by Joakim Bonnier and Graham Hill, who at the finish five laps behind the winner, Phil Hill and Cliff Allison.

The race was overshadowed by the fatal accident Harry Blanchard. The Americans had an accident in the first round and died after his Porsche was hit several times over 718 RSK, still at the crash site.
