1960–61 NHL season
The NHL 1960/61 season was the 44th season in the National Hockey League. Six teams each played 70 games. The Stanley Cup won by the Chicago Blackhawks after a 4-2 victory in the final series against the Detroit Red Wings for the third time. After a sensational start to the season had been expected that Frank Mahovlich could as the second player in NHL history to break the 50 goals mark. After 29 games, he had 26 hits, eleven games left in the season lacked nine. He managed only seven and was overtaken on the home stretch of Bernie Geoffrion, who set the previous record of 50 goals. The first person who reached the mark was Maurice Richard, who had hung his skates on the nail before the season. The game had become too fast.
