- January 20 - The marriage between Marilyn Monroe and Arthur Miller divorced after 4 1/2 years of marriage.
- February 1 - premiere of Misfits - The Misfits (directed by John Huston ). For these resulting from a screenplay by Arthur Miller production of both Marilyn Monroe and Clark Gable stood for the last time in front of the camera. Gable not live to see the premiere.
