1961 World Table Tennis Championships

The 26th World Table Tennis Championship took place until 14 April 1961 in Beijing (China ) of 5. Venue was the 15,000 -seat sports hall workers.

The women's teams were drawn into three groups, two sixes and a group of seven. Each team consisted of two players. A team competition was conducted after the Corbillon - Cup system.

The three group winners Japan, China and Romania played in the system FFA to the medal ranks. Japan defeated China 3-2 and Romania 5-0 and thus secured the gold. China won by 3-2 against Romania silver.

Men's team Germany and the GDR

Germany defeated the teams of Ecuador, Nepal, Burma, Ghana and Mongolia respectively 5-0 and also retained against Czechoslovakia 5-3 the upper hand. Against China succeeded in the 0:5, only a single set win. The prestige duel against the GDR was lost with 3:5. Since the GDR lost only against the group winners China, she reached the second place. Germany came in third place.

Also ended up in the women's Germany and the GDR together in a group. Germany defeated Poland 3-1 against Mongolia 3-0. Conny Freundorfer reached the second round by defeating Lu Chia -Chung (China ), A. Cyrus (Poland) and Ludvik Vyhnanovský (CSSR ). Here he lost to eventual champion Chuang Tse -Tung with 0:3.

In the last 32 Wolfgang Prandke came through victories over Chee Nam Wong ( Singapore) and Yu- Hai Liang (China). Then he lost to the Chinese Hu tap Pen. In the same round Ernst Gomolla was eliminated by Teruo Murakami (Japan), after he had beaten Murray Dunn ( New Zealand) and Yu Chang -Chun (China). Martin Ness won against Tran ( North Vietnam ) and subsequently lost to Ou Sheng - Lien (China).

No DDR players survived the second round. Lothar Pleuse turned off Myint Maung (Burma) and then failed at the Chinese Ma Chin- Pao. Heinz Reimann lost by walkover against Su Kuo -Hsi (China), as well as Heinz Schneider against Chuang (China). Siegfried Lemke defeated in the first round of the Chinese Chen Hsieh -Chung.

Women's singles Germany and East Germany

Jutta Kruse came the farthest. After victories over the Chinese women Chou and Shao Lan-Fang she was eliminated in the second round against Éva Kóczián (Hungary). Rosemarie Gomolla came against Z. The international double Gomolla / Norma Buckland ( Germany / Australia ) retired in the first round against Marita Carlsson / Chou Mei - Chen ( Sweden / China).

Mixed Germany and East Germany

Only Lemke / Hollmann had to play in the first round, where they did against Ian Harrison / Diane Rowe (England). All other German Mixed couples had initially bye. Of those lost in round two Gomolla / Monique Alber ( Germany / France) against Wang / Sun Mei - Ying (China) and Pleuse / Bannach against Teruo Murakami / Kazuko Ito (Japan). The third round reached Prandke / Kruse ( victory over Lohani / Shah, Nepal; defeat against Ichiro Ogimura / Kimiyo Matsuzaki, Japan), Schneider / Kalweit ( victory over Hans alser / Marita Carlson, Sweden; defeat Wang / Wang, China ) Ness / Gomolla ( victory over Christian Heyerdahl / Britt Anderson, Sweden; defeat Yang / Ti Chiang - Hua, China), Reimann / Kunz ( victory over EA Aryee / Ethel Jacks, Ghana; defeat Wang / Sun, China) and Freundorfer / Müser ( losing to Li / Han, China).
