1962–63 Nationalliga A season

The season 1962/63 was the 25th regular hosting of the National League A, the top Swiss league in hockey. For the first time in their history the HC Villars Swiss champion, while the EHC Basel- Rotweiss descent into NLB.

Mode

Unlike last year, the league was increased by two to ten teams. In a joint main round played each of the ten teams in return match against each group opponent, bringing the total number of matches per team was 18. The first table was Swiss champion, during the last table had to compete for the league against the best second division side in the relegation. For a win, each team was given two points, a draw one point. At a loss to give any points.

• EHC Basel- Rotweiss - Grasshoppers 0:7 / 2:5

The EHC Basel- Rotweiss, who lost all of his 18 games in the main round and it had a goal difference of -117, had in the play-offs and met the best second division, Grasshopper- Club, which he each clearly defeated in return game whereby the EHC Basel- Rotweiss descent into NLB and the Grasshopper-Club took its place in the NLA.
