1963 South American Championship

The Campeonato Sudamericano 1963 was the 28th playout of the South American continental championship in football and was held from March 10 to 31 for the first time in Bolivia instead. Chile, Uruguay and Venezuela did not participate.

The tournament was in league system ( FFA ) held. Case of a tie for first place, a playoff was provided. The games at the Estadio Hernando Siles were in the 3,637 m high La Paz and at the Estadio Felix Capriles in the 2,548 m high Cochabamba discharged. Here, some games were played as part of double events such as in previous tournaments.

Brazil sent, as already in the second tournament in 1959, only one team of subordinated players. Bolivia use his home advantage and was surprisingly unbeaten South American champions in football in 1963.
