1964–65 European Cup Winners' Cup

The European Cup Winners' Cup 1964/65 was the fifth playout of the competition. 30 club teams from 29 countries took part, including defending champion Sporting Lisbon, 23 and reigning Cup Winners Cup finalists losing 6 (Celtic Cork, Dundee, Steaua Bucharest, Dinamo Zagreb, Torino and FC Porto).

From Germany were DFB-Pokal winner TSV 1860 Munich, from the GDR fdgb Cup winners SC Magdeburg construction, from Austria ÖFB Cup Winner SK Admira Vienna and Switzerland's FC Lausanne-Sport at the start.

The final of denied West Ham United and the 1860 Munich in London's Wembley Stadium on 19 May 1965. West Ham won the game in front of 98,000 spectators by two goals from Alan Sealey 2-0.

Scorers were Pierre Kerkhoffs of FC Lausanne-Sport, and Vaclav Masek and Gustav Mráz Spartak Prague with six hits.

Mode

The participants played as usual in pure Cup mode with return games the winner. In Torgleichstand Overtime in the return leg a decision match took place on neutral ground. The away goals rule was not yet considered. The final was decided on one game at a neutral venue. However, a replay was scheduled at the score is level after extra time, since a penalty shootout was not provided.

The first legs took place from 11 November to 16 December, the return matches from December 6 to 23 in 1964.

The games were held on 10 and 29 December 1964.

Quarterfinals

The first legs took place on 20 January and 3./16. March and the return matches on February 3 and 17./23. March 1965 instead.

Semifinal

The first legs took place on 7./20. April, the return matches on 28./27. April 1965 instead.

Decision-making
