1967–68 French Division 2

The 1967/68 season was the 29th staging of the professional French football Division 2 second-division champion was the SEC Bastia.

Were eligible to participate, the 13 clubs that were after the previous season went not into the first division have their license - voluntary or otherwise - had submitted; this came three Erstligaabsteiger and three clubs who received a new Professional license for this season.

Thus, in this season following 19 teams played for the championship of Division 2:

  • Two teams from the far north (U.S. Boulogne, Dunkerque U.S. )
  • Four from Paris or Champagne ( newbie battalion Joinville, the two relegated Stade Paris FC - but then withdrew the same in the amateur field - and Stade Reims, EAC Chaumont )
  • Two from the Northeast ( newbie AS Nancy, Racing Club Franc- Comtois Besançon),
  • Three from the West ( newcomer FC Lorient, FC Limoges, Angoulême AS )
  • Seven from the South (FC Grenoble, AS Béziers, SO Montpellier, Nîmes Olympique relegated, Olympique Avignon, SC Toulon, AS Cannes )

A direct ascent and descent depending on the sporting result, there was obtained only between the first and second professional division; after the Second World War, a descent was introduced in the third- highest division for several years, in the meantime, however, was no longer in force. A Zweitdivisionär could descend into the case so alone, that he gave his license or has been taken from him. Existing amateur teams, however, could continue only for the following season ascend to Division 2 when they were given permission by the relevant association FFF to accept professional status. This season there was a relegation between the lowest ranked first division, which is not directly descended, and the best, not directly climb legitimate second division.

Course of the season and Table

Each team wore against each group opponent a back and a leg off, even before a home crowd and once away. It was the two- point rule; case of a tie was the goal difference and, in the case that this was the same - as in this season at Joinville and Lorient - the higher number of goals scored the decisive factor for the placement. In France, the number of plus points is called when specifying the point ratio exclusively; Again, this is done in Germany in the days of the 2- point rule usual notation. The point games began on 20 August 1967 and the last round was held on 5 July 1968. Between mid- December and early January, there was a winter break.

In his third year under professional conditions Bastia, which had failed twice in the relegation, managed to carve out, and with a comfortable lead on the five main competitors. These went to the last game too much tight, especially since there was only one direct promotion place, because the first division should be reduced. At the end of the two year relegated Nimes and Reims placed - the latter even though, thanks to its superior goal difference - in Avignon, Toulon, Grenoble and took part in the relegation round. Behind these ranked with Joinville and Lorient two professional newcomers with a special history. Joinville was the team based in Joinville- le -Pont French army units that had there maintain a battalion specially for professional footballers, especially in the 1950s; Lorient Club history is closely associated since its inception with a widely branched Breton family of football fans, from the amateur since times with Antoine Cuissard, Julien and Yannick Stopyra and Yvon Goujon several A-National player also emerged. In the bottom of the table especially Cannes and Boulogne fell again sharply and occupied the last two ranks. Unlike Stade Paris with his early withdrawal it remained, however, continue in the professional game operation.

In the 306 encounters a maximum of 804 goals were scored; which corresponds to an average of 2.63 goals per match, which this season besides 1966/67, one of the two was by then torärmsten in the league history. The top scorer won Jacques Bonnet from Avignon with 26 goals. After the season was out of Paris Stade no other club his professional status. For the following season came with Racing Lens, SCO Angers, Lille and AS Aix four relegated from Division 1 added. In addition, the Football Association gave the amateur club FC Gazelec Ajaccio a new professional license, so the second division should then be discharged with 21 participants.

Relegation round

The Zweitdivisionäre contributed each two Barrages against the two participants from the first division of; Matches between teams from the same league so there was not. The top two teams played the following season in Division 1, the rules saw for the play-offs, however, a deviation from the league prior to operation, the 1967/68 came to fruition; if here two or more teams were equal on points and climb it or not rise depended, were not superior goal difference the rash, but the teams were first to League membership, optionally followed by their placement queued in the same division.
