1967 Tour de France

The 54th Tour de France from 29 June to 23 July 1967, and resulted in 22 stages over 4780 km. After only four years, the brand teams were again replaced by national teams. It was attended by 130 racers participated in the tour, which was classified by 88.

Race course

For the first time a Tour de France began in 1967 with a prologue, the Spaniard Jose -Maria Errandonea won. In the fifth stage the Belgian Jambes the Frenchman Roger Pingeon could celebrate a stage win and take over the yellow jersey after a solo ride. He lost the jersey though two days later to Raymond Riotte yet at the stage on the Ballon d' Alsace he could take it back. Pingeons teammate and last year's winner Lucien Aimar won this stage, he was fifth at the end of the tour, coinciding with the Dutchman Jan Janssen, who could also win a stage.

Raymond Poulidor, who was weakened by a fall in the Vosges, presented himself at the service of the French team and helped Pingeon to defend his lead. Poulidor could also still win the time trial on the 22 stage. This final stage was the last one, which ended in Parc des Princes, which was demolished later.

The Spaniard Julio Jiménez, who was second overall in the end, won for the third time, the mountains classification. January Janssen was able to win the green jersey.

Was overshadowed the Tour de France of the death of Britain's Tom Simpson, who collapsed in the blazing sun after doping with alcohol and amphetamines on the ascent to the Mont Ventoux.
