1969–70 AHL season
The season 1969/70 was the 34th regular season of the American Hockey League ( AHL ). During the regular season, nine teams played each 72 games. The top six teams in the AHL then played in a play-off round to the Calder Cup.

Calder Cup Playoffs
Mode
For the play-offs, the six best teams in the American Hockey League qualified. In the first play-off round each met the two division winners to the third party of the other division and the Second Division played against each other. Subsequently, the three qualified for the second play-off round teams should compete each against each other twice, but the Voyageurs de Montréal lost all three games, so a fourth game was no longer necessary. The other two teams met each other then in the final. The first play-off round, and the final took place in the best- of-seven mode.
