The 83rd Wimbledon Championships was a tennis grass court tournament Class Grand Slam, which was organized by the ITF. It was held from June 23 to July 5, 1969 in London, United Kingdom. Was hosted by the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club.

Defender of the single were Rod Laver in the men's and Billie Jean King with the ladies. In the men's doubles John Newcombe and Tony Roche were in women's doubles Rosie Casals and Billie Jean King, the defending champion. In mixed Billie Jean King and Ken Fletcher were the defending champions.

Men's Singles

After his triumph in the previous year, Rod Laver favorite was back on the track. Already in the second round he had to contend with problems. Against the Indians Premjit Lall he was with two sets in residue before he could win the remaining three sets clear. Against the set at No. 16 American Stan Smith he had to go and return over five sets in the second round. He playful a 2-0 set lead, Smith won the third and fourth set before Laver won the victory in the fifth set. In the quarterfinals, he defeated the compound at No. 8 Cliff Drysdale in three sets, before it came in the semifinals in a rematch of the 1968 semi-final against Arthur Ashe, in the Laver prevailed in four sets.

Lavers final opponent was Australian John Newcombe, who in 1967 won the title. In the first round he won against the Yugoslavs Niki Pilić. In the quarter finals he met on the set at No. 3 Dutchman Tom Okker, and in the semi-finals followed by the second seed last year's finalist Tony Roche, he defeated each in four sets. On the way to the finals defeat Newcombe had three Australians. In the final, then followed with Rod Laver another compatriot, who won in four sets.

John Newcombe and Tony Roche had the doubles competition can already won in the previous year, and stood in as the current winner of the French Open in 1969 at the tournament of Wimbledon. Final opponents were the Dutchman Tom Okker and the American Marty Riessen. In round two, they had to catch up against the unseeded Danes January Leschly and Jorgen Ulrich 2-0 sets down to eventually win in five sets. In the semifinals, they sat down in four sets against the second- placed Australian Roy Emerson and Rod Laver through.

In the final Newcombe and Roche won without dropping a set in three sets.
