1970 African Cup of Nations

The African Cup of Nations 1970 (English: African Cup of Nations, French for Coupe d' Afrique des Nations ) was the seventh playout of the African continental championship in football and was held from February 6 to 16 for the second time after 1957 in Sudan instead. Organized by the African Football Association Continental Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF ) again participated in eight teams VA Republic, Ethiopia, DR Congo, Ghana, Guinea, Ivory Coast, Cameroon and Sudan.

As in previous years, was also a qualifier for the reduction of the field with a record number of 23 candidates instead of eight finalists, which hosts Sudan and defending champions DR Congo qualified automatically.

It was played as usual with two groups of four teams. The top two teams from each group then played from the semi-finals in the knockout system from the tournament winner. The games of the finals were held in the Sudanese capital Khartoum and Wad Madani.

Hosts Sudan used its home court advantage, won the tournament and was the first time African champions in football.
