1970 Alpine Skiing World Cup

The season 1969/1970 the FIS Alpine World Cup, organized by the began on December 10, 1969 in Val d'Isere and ended on 15 March 1970 in Voss ( women). For men, 28 races were held (6 runs, 11 giant slalom, slalom 11 ). For women, there were 26 races (5 runs, 9 Giant Slalom, Slalom 12 ). Added to this was ever a combined score.

The overall World Cup the men had fought hard this time. It included, as in the years before ever discipline only the three best results, it could therefore each discipline maximum of 75 points will be scored, the theoretical maximum number of points for the overall ranking was 225 before the last two races in Voss Karl Schranz led with 148 points, ahead of Patrick Russel with 145 points and Gustav Thöni with 140 points. Schranz was still able to score points in both races remaining, Russell would have been able to win a maximum of 5 points ( with a victory in the giant slalom ), and Thöni also only 5 points with a victory in the slalom since he in this discipline until then a win and two second had places. Thöni was therefore at this time can at best catch up with Russel already without chance of overall victory and would have. In the Giant Slalom Schranz was third and fourth Russel, neither of them was able to increase his points tally. Thus was Schranz World Cup winner with just three points. Russell's victory in the final slalom slalom victory was his fourth of the season and thus a void result.

The highlight of the season was the 1970 World Cup in Val Gardena. The was holding its race also counted for the World Cup standings, why Schranz was able to record two World Cup victories in the giant slalom, which is not seen but from the queried on the Internet FIS statistics because there this victory is shown only under " World Championships " and not under " World Cup ".
