1971–72 IHL season
The 1971/72 season was the 27th regular season of the International Hockey League. During the regular season, eight teams in each contested 72 games. In the play-offs, the Port Huron Wings prevailed and won the third Turner Cup in their history.

Team changes
The following changes were made before the start of the season:
- The Columbus Checkers returned after one year of inactivity back in the league and changed their name to Columbus Golden Seals, after the team had previously been purchased by the NHL team California Golden Seals.
- The Port Huron Flags changed their name to Port Huron Wings.
