1971 Women's European Volleyball Championship

The European Women's Volleyball in 1971 took place from 23 September to 1 October in Italy. The number of participants increased to eighteen teams; this involved the federal German selection and the GDR. The games were played in Reggio Emilia, Bologna, Gorizia, Imola and Modena. The Soviet Union won for the seventh time in the title.

Mode

The eighteen participants were divided into the first round in six groups of three. The group winners were summarized in the final round to a group. In the mode " all against all " they determined the tournament winner. The runners-up played to the ranks of seven to twelve, the third group for the places from thirteen to eighteen.
