1972–73 Czechoslovak Extraliga season

The season 1972/73 1st League was the 30th regular hosting of the highest Hockey Class of Czechoslovakia. In the playoff finals Tesla Pardubice sat 4-2 victories against Dukla Jihlava through. For the team it was their first Czechoslovakian league title at all. Motor České Budějovice dismounted in the second division, while VŽKG Ostrava / Vitkovice from this rise in the first league.

Mode

As in the previous season the league was played with ten teams. Since each team fought out against each group opponent each two home and away games, the total number of matches per team was 36 games. Then, the top four teams playing in the playoffs from the master. During the semi-finals and the game took place 3rd place in the Best-of -Five mode, the final in the best- of-seven mode has been discharged. The-table had to compete against the three winners of the second division groups in qualifying for the first league for the following season.

Best scorer of the main round was as Julius Haas Slovan Bratislava CHZJD, who scored 32 goals in the 36 games of his team.

1st League qualifier

The winners of the three second division groups, VTZ Chomutov, VŽKG Ostrava / Vitkovice and Lokomotíva Bučina Zvolen, and the second in the group A, ZVVZ Milevsko and the last of the first league Motor Ceske Budejovice played in home and away leg for admission to the first League and to remain in this for the following season. Here, the first three teams were by and played a year later in the first league. Originally the B- team Dukla Jihlava first of the group A, but the team could not do it legitimate to rise in the first league so that Chomutov and ZVVZ Milvesko nachrückten.
