1972–73 Swedish Division I season

The 1972/73 season was the 29th season of Division 1 as the highest Swedish hockey league. Master became the second overall time in club history Leksand IF. Skellefteå AIK and KB Karlskoga descended to the second division.

Mode

In the main round of the league was divided into two groups ( North and South). Each of the eight teams in each group completed a total of 14 games. The top four teams from each group qualified for the final round, in which the Master was played. The four last placed each group had to compete in a relegation round, both groups performed their own relegation round. The last placed each relegation round up directly from the second division, while the penultimate any relegation round had to play in the relegation. For a win, each team was given two points, a draw there was a point and a defeat.
