1972 Copa Libertadores

The Copa Libertadores 1972 was the 13th edition of the most important South American football competition for club teams. 21 teams took part. It took each of the national champions of CONMEBOL countries and the second part, or the winner and finalist of the Cup competition in Bolivia, since there is no national championship has been held. Uruguay sent only one node, as in the previous year Nacional Montevideo had won the tournament and qualified automatically. The tournament began on 30 January and ended on 24 May 1972 with the final second leg. The Argentine representative CA Independiente won the final against Universitario de Deportes and won for the third time this competition.
