1973–74 DFB-Pokal

DFB Cup winner 1974, Eintracht Frankfurt. In the season of the Football World Cup in 1974, the DFB returned to the original form of competition by only one game. The additional burden of two games in the DFB Cup would have been too high for the national team. A draw after extra time, however, a replay was still discharged. Defending champion Borussia Mönchengladbach was one of the teams that were eliminated after a replay: In the second round but a penalty shoot-out was also necessary in order to pave the Hamburger SV the way to the final. Since the German national football team has been appointed early for training camp in Malente, the DFB decided to hold the final only at the beginning of next season after the World Cup.

In the European Cup Winners Frankfurter retired in the second round against the eventual Cup winner Dynamo Kiev.
