1973–74 in English football

The Football League First Division in 1973/74 was the 75th season of the Football League First Division as the highest English football league. Leeds United won with five points behind the defending champions FC Liverpool now his second English championship. Both promoted FC Burnley and Queens Park Rangers were able to keep the class; to from now on three Erstligabsteigern one season in the Second Division included the Southampton FC, Manchester United and Norwich City. These three teams should be in the following season replaced by the three second division team FC Middlesbrough, Luton Town and Carlisle United.

A total of 485 players were used, the Queens Park Rangers and Derby County with 18, the least and Norwich City with 32 mustered the most players in league games. 91 newcomers were offset by 98 footballers who most recently came into play in the 1973/74 season.
