1973 Major League Baseball Draft

The MLB Draft in 1973 was the ninth draft, which was organized by Major League Baseball. First of David Clyde was selected by the Texas Rangers.

Background

Four of the most successful players in the 1970s and 1980s were the infielders Robin Yount (Milwaukee Brewers, first round ), outfielder Dave Winfield (San Diego Padres, first round ), the outfielder Fred Lynn ( Boston Red Sox, Round 2 selected) and infielder Eddie Murray (Baltimore Orioles, third round).

In contrast, they drafted in the first place David Clyde was forced to retire early due to injury after a successful start of his career.
