1974–75 ABA season

The ABA season 1974/75 was the eighth season of the American Basketball Association. The season started on 18 October 1974. At Play operating participated 10 teams. Each team completed 84 games. The four best of each division qualified for the playoffs. On May 22, 1975, the season ended with the ABA Championship. The Kentucky Colonels defeated in the finals of the Indiana Pacers and were for the first time master of the ABA.

Season notes

  • The Carolina Cougars moved to St. Louis, Missouri and played there as Spirits of St. Louis.
  • After a change of ownership, the Memphis Tams were renamed Memphis Sounds.
  • The Denver Rockets were renamed the Denver Nuggets.
  • The ABA teams won 16 of the 23 friendly games against NBA teams before the season.
  • The ABA All-Star Game was held in San Antonio on January 28, 1975.
  • Before the end of the season, the league took over the business of the San Diego Conquistadors.
  • The Virginia Squires joined the Season starting with the worst result in league history ( 15:69 ).
  • In a playoff for first place in the Eastern Division of the Kentucky Colonels defeated the New York Nets with 108:99.
