1974 NHL Amateur Draft

The NHL Amateur Draft in 1974, the annual talent contraction of the National Hockey League, took place on 28 May 1974 at the office of the NHL in Montreal, Canada in the province of Quebec instead.

A total of 247 players were taken in 25 rounds, where in the last rounds only a few teams player chose and from lap 16, only three teams attracted more players. The top pick Greg Joly never made the real breakthrough in the NHL. The most successful player in the draft was Bryan Trottier, who, however, was not selected until the beginning of the second round. Other interesting choices were the brothers Mark and Marty Howe, the two sons of Gordie Howe, who played at this time with the two together in the World Hockey Association. In the third round was drawn into a draft with Per -Arne Alexandersson, the first Swede, who, however, was never used in the NHL.

Election of Taro Tsujimoto

An oddity occurred when the general manager of the Buffalo Sabres, Punch Imlach, Taro Tsujimoto chose with the first Japanese man in the history of the NHL Entry Draft. Only a few weeks later it turned out that there was no hockey player with the same name and the Imlach had allowed himself a joke.
