1976–77 AHL season
The 1976/77 season was the 41st regular season of the American Hockey League ( AHL ). During the regular season, six teams denied each 80 encounters. The four best teams in the AHL then played in a play-off round to the Calder Cup.

Team changes
The following changes were made before the start of the season:
- The Richmond Robins stopped the game operation
- The Baltimore Clippers left the league and joined the Southern Hockey League in
- The Providence Reds changed their name in Rhode Iceland Reds

Calder Cup Playoffs
Mode
For the play-offs, the four best teams in the American Hockey League qualified. In the play-off semi-finals was made by the First to the Fourth and the Second to the third party. Then the two winners played in the playoff final for the Calder Cup. The play-off semi-finals and Calder Cup Finals were played in best- of-seven mode.
