Special events

The semi-final between Saint -Etienne and Nantes hinted what fighting spirit of the Cup Winners' Cup could create the day: at half- time, the " Verts " the first leg -0 had: 3 offset against the " Canaris ", but had 45 minutes later still in the extension. The game seemed gone when Michel shortened it for Nantes; but scored in the 115th and 119th minute Sarramagna and H. Revelli two late but decisive blow. Also in the finals were Saint -Etienne gates that still turned the game in the last five minutes. Here, the ASSE benefited from Reims that his striker Carlos Bianchi, who won the " League top scorer " in 1976 /77 and the central defender César -Auguste Laraignee were not calculated in this most important game of the season.
